Born in Reutlingen in 1903, the future company founder initially trained to be a mechanic in the local steam machinery factory. But soon, this work no longer satisfied him. In Esslingen, the Swabian technical enthusiast then studied electrical engineering and ended up as an engineer with a company in Berlin where he was responsible for the development of switchgear. In the twenties, the global economic crisis finally brought Emil Euchner back to his place of birth. Following a short period in Frankfurt, he took over a sales agency in Stuttgart. In the meantime, Emil Euchner had married and had also had a son, Wolfgang. A good reason for moving: His wife, Julie Euchner, never liked Hessen very much.
Wolfgang Eucher remembers:
"At the beginning of the fifties, my father came to Nürtingen where he was employed as an external sales representative with a company. Just at the time, it happened that they were experiencing problems with their telephone system and my father noticed that these were being repaired with new switching relays by a Siemens technician. The relays switched with 48 volt instead of 220 volt and were therefore much smaller. The Nürtingen company then incorporated the small units in the control cabinets. This prompted my father to develop the so-called multiple limit switch which started its triumphant conquest of the international market under the name of camshaft switch".
The camshaft switch incorporates several individual switches in a single housing. These are technically highly developed controls which are used for positioning and controlling mechanical and systems engineering equipment. To this day, it is a symbol of EUCHNER's innovative spirit.
When asked by the mechanical engineer from Nürtingen whether Siemens could build these devices themselves, the company declined. Other companies such as AEG and BBC were also unenthusiastic. The reason: The quantities were too low. Emil Euchner, who was aware of all these developments, collaborated with his brother Paul Euchner to develop the first multiple limit switch in a period of just six weeks in a basement in Rohr, and sold it to Nürtingen. Demand grew. Soon there was no longer enough room in the small basement workshop. Emil Euchner thought about expanding but he couldn't do this in Rohr.

The company was founded officially in 1953. Emil Euchner created Euchner + Co. - a milestone in the company’s history.

The innovative camshaft switch creates rapid progress for the company
The new switch saves space and material. This can reduce costs considerably. Since the multiple limit switch was designed in close co-operation with the local machine tool industry, it was no coincidence that it was in the very heartland of Baden-Wurttemberg's industrial area that EUCHNER was established. Since demand was growing significantly, the Leinfelden company continually expanded between 1953 and 1990.

Euchner - Second generation
In 1956 Wolfgang Euchner joins the company. When Emil Euchner died in 1961 after a long and serious illness, his son, Wolfgang, succeeded him. EUCHNER has approx. 25 employees. The company has annual sales of approx. one million Deutschmark.
The combined iron and steel works in Unterböhringen
The 60s - Few assembly workers are available in Leinfelden and its environs. The reason: The Automotive Industry had absorbed practically all available personnel resources. The employment market had been almost cleaned out. In 1970 , EUCHNER therefore establishes Factory II in Unterböhringen (Bad Überkingen).
Opportunity taken - future secured
In 1994 EUCHNER emerges from the crisis in the machine tools industry, paving the way to a secure future. Attention was increasingly focused on safety systems which today forms one of the three product ranges of EUCHNER's corporate activities, along with the areas of automation and Man Machine.

Wolfgang Euchner passes the baton to the next generation
In 1997 , Wolfgang Euchner retired as the company's Managing Director and passed the baton to his two sons, Michael Euchner (B.Sc. Eng.) and Stefan Euchner (B.Sc. Eng.). EUCHNER + Co. became EUCHNER GmbH + Co. 42-year old Stefan Euchner is responsible for the business and commercial aspects of the company, and Michael Euchner (40) has responsibility for technical management.
Half a century needs to be celebrated
In 2003 EUCHNER celebrates its 50 year jubilee. At this time the company employs 360 persons worldwide. 10 sales subsidiaries cover the globe along with 18 authorized sales offices. The annual turnover is almost 50 million Euro in the year 2001. Today, EUCHNER GmbH + Co. KG is an international family owned enterprise and employs more than 400 persons worldwide.
