Machines often must be equipped with a separate selection option for an operating mode, such as manual and setup modes, to allow the operator to perform servicing or similar work. This involves changing over the safety system. Setup work usually has to be performed with the safety door open, i.e. with the safety guard bypassed. A different safety system, such as an enabling switch, is then used instead of the safety door in this mode.
