Industry 4.0 ready

Devices of the BR and BP families can communicate and provide a wealth of device data. These data can be transferred via a gateway to a standardized bus system such as IO-Link.

Mounting and principle of operation

Thanks to the transponder technology, even a single CTM achieves category 4/PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1, without additional fault exclusion, and meets all the requirements of EN ISO 14119. It is ideal for applications requiring a high performance level in a confined space.

Safety switch CTM-BR

Versatile use

The CTM reliably secures small safety doors and flaps on machines and systems. Thanks to the integrated guard locking and guard lock monitoring it can be used both for process protection and the protection of personnel. The compact design permits space-saving mounting on the guard. The very robust plastic housing and the high degree of protection IP67/IP69/IP69K make the CTM the all-rounder for almost every industrial use. With its smooth surfaces, rounded edges, and materials resistant to cleaning agents, the CTM is particularly suitable for use in the food and packaging industries.

Mounting and principle of operation

The CTM consists of two components, a safety switch and a separate actuator. The safety switch is mounted on the fixed part of the guard, the actuator on the movable part.

The compact dimensions (120 mm x 36 mm x 25 mm) permit simple integration into any machine design. Door pivoting radii as small as 150 mm are possible thanks to the innovative ball actuator. The integral adhesive force (25/50 N) effectively prevents doors from being opened when they are not locked.

When the guard is closed, the actuator moves into the opening of the safety switch. The safety outputs are switched on if the integrated transponder chip in the actuator is detected and the guard locking activated. Thanks to the integrated prevention of inadvertent locking position (faulty closure protection), unintentional activation of the safety outputs is prevented if the actuator is not completely inserted into the guard locking opening.

Diagnostic information

In addition to the advantages of series connection, safety switches CTM-BR allow comprehensive diagnostic information to be forwarded to the control system. The devices supply process-relevant parameters in real time. They even provide information on preventive maintenance. The sensors measure relevant parameters in the surroundings to indicate problems before a machine failure can occur. When safety module ESM-CB is used, this information is polled from each switch in the chain and provided to the control system via IO-Link.

  • Series connection in the control cabinet. The wiring is in the control cabinet. All information about the status of individual CTMs can be forwarded directly to the control system.
  • Series connection in the field. For field wiring EUCHNER offers the option of using M12 plugs and Y-distributors to connect together several CTMs. Instead of the Y-plug connectors it is also possible to use a passive distribution module. On this device all safety and status signals are collected together in the field and forwarded to the control system using one cable.
